UNDERGRADUATE STUDY PROGRAMME OF MUSIC EDUCATION/PEDAGOGY

Scope of qualifications: 240 ECTS

Requirements: 4.2 level qualifications, plus entrance procedure  

The general outcomes expected from the bachelor of music pedagogy should be recognized in competences (knowledge, skills and capacities) closely related to teaching children and young people, and other fields in which general music education is required (e.g. associates in kindergartens, leaders of music kindergartens, associates in primary and secondary school extra-curricular activities, solfeggio teachers and conductors of choir societies at music courses, leaders of different ensembles within cultural-artistic societies, in tourism, organizers of music performances at festivals, in institutions of art, professional associates at theatres, in libraries and media, record industry, etc.) 

The following specific outcomes can be divided into those considering professional courses and those considering music theory courses. The outcomes of optional courses generally follow and supplement the outcomes of compulsory courses. Additional competences for teaching are acquired by choosing the Education Package courses (relevant examinations should be also passed). 

Upon completion of the four-year study programme, the student will be able to: 

  • carry out practical activities with pre-school children and children at their early school age
  • create and present lessons by using adequate teaching methods, work forms and knowledge sources 
  • perform precisely in terms of intonation and metro-rhythm,  perceive, memorize and write music, to play music independently and as a group member 
  • describe the features of music pieces, and to be familiar with the characteristics of some historical and style-periods 
  • recognize and analyze, as well as differentiate and compare music kinds,  epochs and styles 
  • correctly define, analyze and critically consider music forms that are characteristic for different style-periods 
  • analytically approach the harmonic and polyphonic structure of a music piece   
  • independently upgrade different melody patterns in terms of harmony  
  • carry out preparation activities for various vocal and instrumental ensembles  
  • lead school, amateurish and other similar ensembles 
  • play the piano for teaching purposes, play scores, accompany piano playing and alike 
  • participate in vocal demonstration through the interpretation of singing exercises and sections in groups and individually
  • orientate in scores and use instruments for their general purposes 
  • compose his/her own compositions for the piano, other instruments, chamber groups   
  • use modern technology and technological skills  (text processing, sound processing, note writing)
  • describe, differentiate and apply studio and computer equipment, synchronize audio and video records
  • cooperate with different education and cultural institutions (theatre, radio stations, television, printed media, libraries, etc.)
  • continue his/her education at the graduate level
