GENERAL INFORMATION

We are happy to announce "International Symposium on Japanese Language and Culture Education in Southeastern Europe" that will be held at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula on 13th January 2017.

The aim of the symposium is to mark the new undergraduate degree study program of Japanese language and culture that was established at the University under the Faculty of Humanities in the autumn of 2015 and to initiate a broader cooperation between specialists in the region. Moreover, the symposium aims to provide an opportunity for the students of the new programme to become acquainted with current research topics in Japanese studies and with existing programs and experts in Japanese language and culture in the region.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We kindly invite you to submit your speech proposals (title and short abstract) by 15th December 2016 (address: japanskipula@gmail.com, subject: [SympPula2017] ....).

The topics appropriate for this symposium include a variety topics related to Japanese language and culture:

·      Course design methods

·      Relation between language and society observed from various perspectives (literature, film, popular and traditional culture, cultural anthropology, translation, economics, history, linguistics, lexicography, diplomacy etc.)

·      Education of new generations of specialists in Japanese language and culture.

·      Discussion panel on building a stronger collaboration network between the specialists in different regions

PRESENTATIONS

The keynote talk will be 30 minutes + 10 minutes discussion, the special guest talk will be 29 minutes + 10 minutes discussion. Other presentations are supposed to be 15 minutes + 5 minutes discussion. The projector and computer will be prepared.

WORKING LANGUAGES
The official language of the symposium is English but proposals in Japanese are also possible. English is preferable since students whose knowledge of Japanese is not sufficient yet, will participate as well.

BOOK OF ABSTRACTS

The abstracts will be published online on our university web site (with ISBN number).

REGISTRATION FEES

Symposium fee: 30 euro

Symposium fee includes entrance to all lectures and discussion panels, as well as all coffee breaks on the day of the conference.

Free of charge for participants from University of Ljubljana, University of Zagreb and University of Belgrade with whom we signed the collaboration prior to the conference.

LUNCH AND GALA DINNER

Participants can choose to take lunch and dinner organized by conference committee.

Lunch: 40 kuna (5.5 euro)

Gala dinner: 100 kuna (13 euro)

ACCOMMODATION

We have agreed with Pula City Center accommodation, Vrtlarska 1 (****, 3-5 minute walk from the Faculty, http://citypula.com/)  for two-night stay (12. 1. and 13. 1.) for all presenters coming from Zagreb, Belgrade and Ljubljana.

Accommodation is provided shared in premium and family rooms, which will be all covered by the received funding (breakfast not included).
